Yesterday Microsperience blogged about the GSMA’s announcement concerning the universal charger. Today both the general and tech press is full of this news, and the overall feeling coming from consumers is a universal ‘about time too’! But this announcement raises more fundamental issues.

Universal charger – saving the environment and enhancing the telesperience?

Great news from the Mobile World Congress yesterday. The GSMA announced that the main handset manufacturers have agreed to standardise their chargers, using the micro-USB connection currently used in the Blackberry Storm. The universal charger will be phased in from the end of this year, with the majority of phones using it by 2012.

What a boost to the telesperience! Well maybe…

Tech firms risk a privacy backlash

News out of Mobile World Congress is that the UK’s cellcos have been tracking usage of the mobile internet for the last 12 months and are now going to sell the data to advertisers.
