Phones just keep getting smarter. For many of us they’re now so smart that we don’t have either the time or the inclination to exploit the features they offer. But not content with completely baffling even fairly technically-literate folk, device manufacturers are now pushing the concept of the mobile internet device or MID. Despite the acronym, this is a high-end phone designed to optimise the device for internet browsing and being touted as a competitor to the netbook. Will it fly? Last week the press was awash with the latest telecoms health scare – nickel allergies causes by mobile handsets. Darran Clements looks at the potential impact on customers’ telesperience and what it means for operators.
Health concerns about handsets have bubbled around in the press for a long while, but a new one has now emerged into the public consciousness. Apparently, nickel in the casings of mobile handsets is causing some people to have allergic reactions to their phones.
